Top 10 Deadliest School Shootings in the US since 1918
Andrew Kehoe killed 38 elementary school students and 6 adults, injuring 58 others, killed his wife, firebombed his farm, detonated an explosion in the school, then committed suicide by incendiary device in his truck.
2) Virginia Tech Massacre, April 16, 2007 - 32 killed, 17 injured
Seung-Hui Cho shot 49 people on campus with two semi-automatic pistols and committed suicide when police stormed the building he was in.
3) Sandy Hook Elementary School Shooting, December 14, 2012 - 27 killed, 2 injured
Adam Lanza shot 20 children and 6 adults in Sandy Hook Elementary School after fatally shooting his mother, then committed suicide when the first responders arrived at the school.
4) University of Texas Tower Shooting, August 1, 1966 - 17 killed, 31 injured
Charles Whitman, a former Marine, stabbed his wife and mother to death, used rifles and others weapons to shoot 48 people over a span of 90 minutes, and was killed when a policeman and civilian reached the tower he was in and shot him.
5) Stoneman Douglas High School (Parkland) Shooting, February 14, 2018 - 17 killed, 17 injured
Nikolas Cruz shot 34 people at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School, killing 14 students and 3 staff members. He has been charged with 17 counts of premeditated murder and 17 counts of attempted murder.
6) Columbine High School Shooting, April 20, 1999 - 13 killed, 24 injured
Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold fatally shot 12 students and 1 teacher, also using explosive and incendiary devices to divert first responders. Both shooters committed suicide following an exchange of gunfire with the police.
7) Santa Fe High School Massacre, May 18, 2018 - 10 killed, 13 injured
Dimitrios Pagourtzis has been charged and arraigned for the deaths of eight students and two staff members at Santa Fe High School, using his father's shotgun and pistol, and supposedly planted six explosive devices (including pipe bombs, a carbon dioxide device, and a molotov cocktail) for currently unknown reasons. He has been charged with ten counts of capital murder and one count of aggravated assault against a peace officer.
8) Umpqua Community College Shooting, October 1, 2015 - 9 killed, 9 injured
Chris Harper-Mercer fatally shot an assistant professor and eight students in a classroom and committed suicide after a brief shootout with the police.
9) Red Lake Masscare, March 21, 2005 - 9 killed, 5 injured
Jeffrey Weise killed his grandfather (a tribal police officer) and grandfather's girlfriend, stole his grandfather's police weapons, and went to Red Lake Senior High School where he fatally shot a security guard, a teacher, and five students. He exchanged gunfire with the police when they arrived and then committed suicide.
10) Oikos University Shooting, April 2, 2012 - 7 killed, 3 injured
One L. Goh was identified as the suspected perpetrator for the deaths of 7 people in Oikos University. He surrendered to the police shortly after the shooting and later plead no contest to the shootings and was sentenced to 7 consecutive life sentences with an additional 271 years in prison.
It's been a while since I posted something on here, but with this most recent school shooting, I wanted to post an updated list of the deadliest school shootings in the past century. This is not the deadliest mass shootings in US history, or it would be much different. This list only includes mass shootings that have taken place in or at a school. This is based on personal research, I encourage you to do your own.
